Civil Inspect Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 22, 2026.

Civil Inspect is a field inspection app used to capture photos, notes, optional location and stationing context, captions, and report packages.

Data The App Handles

How Data Is Used

Data is used to store inspection records on the device, generate report packages, help users find and back up field photos, support optional image captioning, and diagnose app issues when the user shares diagnostics.

Local Storage

Civil Inspect is device-first. Inspection photos, metadata, generated reports, and local diagnostics are stored on the device unless the user exports, opens, shares, emails, or enables optional online captioning.

Optional Online Captioning

When online captions are enabled, the app sends a compressed inspection image and a short text context (up to 120 characters, such as project or stationing notes) to the Civil Inspect caption service, which forwards the image to our third-party AI provider, Groq, Inc. (groq.com/privacy-policy), solely to generate a one-sentence construction caption. The image is processed only to produce that caption and is not stored by Civil Inspect. Provider keys are never stored in the native app. You can use device-only captions to avoid sending any image off the device.

The copy sent for captioning has its location and other EXIF metadata removed before it leaves the device, even though the full-size photo kept on your device and used in reports keeps its GPS/EXIF data as described under Location below.

Location

Location is used only to add GPS and stationing context to inspection photos and reports when permission is granted.

Photos

If enabled, Civil Inspect may save photos to a Civil Inspect folder or album on the device so users can access them in the phone photo library. The app includes retention settings for cleanup.

Diagnostics

The app records local support events such as capture, export, caption, auth, and backup outcomes. These diagnostics should not include passcodes, provider keys, Apple credentials, Expo tokens, or customer secrets. Diagnostics are shared only when the user exports or sends them.

Tracking And Advertising

No advertising SDKs are used. Civil Inspect does not perform cross-app tracking for the pilot build.

Data Sharing

Civil Inspect does not sell your data and does not use it for advertising. Data leaves your device only when you take an action that sends it: opening, exporting, sharing, or emailing a generated report or ZIP package; enabling online captions (which sends the image and short context to our AI caption provider, Groq, as described above); or sending diagnostics for support. Report packages are delivered only through the export or share destination you choose, such as email, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Files.

Retention And Deletion

The app includes settings for phone photo folder retention, generated report retention, and locked backup retention. Users can also delete app data through device settings.
